Sports News:
**The girl’s tennis team faced off with the Holland Dutch Thursday and came up one match short as they lost by a score of 3 1/2 to 4.  If one of those close matches would have went our way, Zeeland would have walked away with the win.  The girls seemed to improve during every match this season.  Coach Barense and Roskamp are extremely happy with the progress the girls made and they look forward to the bright future these girls have in tennis!
Winning matches for Zeeland yesterday were:
Creekside: Carly Sleeman, Molly Cook, Claira Kraft, Alaina Erdman, Jadyn Keatley, Meghan Yskes, Ella Mulder, Madeline Yskes, Avery Vugteveen, Anna DeVries, Mariah DenBesten, Cara Quillan, Kayla Miles, Jo Jo Perkins
Cityside: Ella Hathaway, Carly Lukins,

ZQuest:  Jersey Masselink, Tessa Rindfliesch

The coaches would like to thank the girls for working so hard this season.  Nice job, girls!
**Thursday, your 7th grade boys soccer team took on Mac Bay.  Your DUX played their best game of the season and were up 2-1 at one point of the game, but due to injury and having no subs, didn’t have enough in the tank to finish with a win.  The final score was a 2-5 loss.  Playing a fantastic game between the pipes was Tyler Dykstra.  Scoring both goals for the DUX was Diego Mendoza.  The entire team stepped up and played their best!!  We are proud of you!!
**The 8th grade boys soccer team wrapped up their season Thursday night with a hard fought game against West Ottawa Mac Bay. The Dux played a solid first half, generating many scoring opportunities but found themselves down 2-0 heading into halftime. The Dux came out strong in the second half, continuing to dictate play and dominating possession. Their hard work and resilience paid off, resulting in 2 goals within a span of 10 minutes. Isaac Hondorp’s left footed blast from the top of the 18 made it 1-2, and Austin Bomers’ one timer off a left footed Connor Dobrinski cross mad the score 2-2 with about 10 minutes to play. Unfortunately, Mac Bay converted on a PK in the waning minutes to secure the win, 2-3. Thanks for a great season boys!
**The 7th grade girls volleyball ended their regular season with a great win Thursday night  again  Hudsonville Riley. Mackenzie Spitters, Lindsey Houle, Samarah Arendsen, Ally Yonker, Ellie Merson and Kenzie Bell were powerhouse servers. Spitters, Houle, Arendsen, Gulker and Merson were forces at the net with kills to stun the Eagles. Great team effort by everyone! What a fun game!  Go Dux!!
**Your 8th Grade Girls Dux hosted the Hudsonville Eagles in the final home volleyball match Thursday night. Both teams brought their best games, and every set was a battle. Creekside lost the first set, then took the second set 26-24. Play at the net was exciting with hard hitting and great blocking. Abby Winn had 4 kills, and Tia Martinez blocked some of the Eagles best hitters. Great season DUX!!

Last match for the ladies is this Thursday, home, versus the Dutch from Holland.
**Your 8th Grade Girls Volleyball Team battled the Cityside Chix Tuesday night to an exciting and heartbreaking finish. The first set was tight, with Abby Winn, Alayna Ruch and Taylor Zwagerman combining for a dozen hard spikes, and the score was tied as late as 19-19. Our DUX took the second set, led by the serving and hustle of Tia Martinez and Emma Hecht.  But the third-set tiebreaker went to the Chix.  It was a great match by two talented teams.  GO DUX!!
**The Dux girls volleyball defeated the Chix Tues. night in a great team performance. Lindsey Houle, Reese Geurink, Lindy Gulker, Ally Yonker and Bella Flores led the team with consistent serving. Lindy Gulker had a couple ace kills that stunned the Chix. Go Dux!

Sports Results:

**8th Grade Soccer Result-

The Dux 8th grade boys soccer team eeked out a close win against West Ottawa Harbor Lights Tuesday night, 4-3. Isaac Hondorp had two goals and an assist, Austin Bomers had 2 goals, and Connor Dobrinski and Joshua Kroll added assists. The Dux took a 3-1 lead into halftime, and needed a late insurance goal to secure the win, as WO came roaring back in the second half scoring 2 goals.
**After a loss to Grand Haven earlier this season, the girl’s tennis team played extremely tough Tuesday as they beat the Buccaneers this time around by a score of 6-1.  The girls were laser focused, confident, and finished strong to close several of the matches.  Winning the matches for Zeeland were:
Creekside:  Molly Cook, Carly Sleeman, Hannah You, Kara Bartels, Annie Panozzo, Claira Kraft, Alaina Erdman, Jadyn Keatley, Meghan Yskes, Marissa Brower
Cityside: Brooke Johnson, Madalyn Hickey, Ella Hathaway, Carly Lukins
**The 7th grade team suffered a 3 game loss to Hamilton last night. They battled but fell short. Marissa Ybarra was solid in her serving.
**Tuesday, your 7th grade soccer team played Libertas Christian.  Early on in the first half, Diego Mendoza found the back of the net on a pass from Joey DeWeerd.  Libertas answered with a score.  Later on Diego reciprocated passing the ball to Joey to add another score.  Eli Goosen then got into the action, scrapping in front of the net for a score.  At the half, your DUX had a 3-1 lead…  Then your DUX went on a scoring spree!  Diego Mendoza, Eli Goosen, Joey DeWeerd, Andrew Edwards, and Isaiah Cifuentes all found the back of the net.  Austin Mansaray and Tyler Dykstra assisted.  The game ended with an 8-2 win for your DUX!  A combined effort by Tyler Dykstra and Brandon Schader was recorded between the pipes.  Great job DUX!!
**If you were at the Creekside Gym last night, you are probably still fired up from the exciting games. We gave Hamilton a little hope in the second set, but won the first and third to put “em on the bus” for a quiet ride back to Hamilton. Taylor Zwagerman kept them guessing with hard spikes and smart strategy shots.  Abby Winn was unstoppable with her hard driven hits, and finished by serving the last 8 points!!! GO DUX!!

Cityside: Maddie Karsten, Ella Hathaway, Carly Lukins

Creekside: Carly Sleeman, Annie Panozzo, Claira Kraft, Jadyn Keatley, Meghan Yskes, Madeline Yskes, Avery Vugteveen, Anna DeVries, Mariah DenBesten
**The boys and girls Creekside XC team ran a great meet Tuesday at the Roosevelt/Wetland course.  The sun beat down on the runners from Holland, Jenison, Cityside, and Creekside yet all pushed onto the finish without a hitch.  Creekside standout performers were Lillya Boetsma who dropped nearly 2 minutes off her last best time and Brian Underhill and Cameron Keen who both finished nearly a minute and a half faster then their best times.  Hats off to Ben Keuning, Ruthanne Zuber, Gracie Erdman, and Mackenzie VanGeeste who have ran a PR for every race since the beginning of the season.

Great Job Everyone Go Dux!!

Sports News:

**To say the girl’s tennis team got hot Thursday afternoon is an understatement as the team took on the Holland Dutch in scorching conditions and beat them by a score of 4 to 3 1/2.  Even though dehydration and dizziness struck our team,  we still fought to score enough points to pull out the win.  Winning matches for Zeeland were:

Cityside: Madalyn Hickey, Ella Hathaway, Carly Lukins, Elise Jackson
Creekside: Annie Panozzo, Molly Cook, Claira Kraft, Jadyn Keatley, Meghan Yskes, Ella Mulder, Madeline Yskes, Avery Vugteveen, Bri Johnson

ZQuest:  Jersey Masselink

**Thursday afternoon your 7th grade soccer team took on Hamilton.  Your DUX got on the board first as Austin Mansaray passed a ball through the middle to Joey DeWeerd to find the back of the net.  Hamilton was later able to score two goals.  Diego Mendoza tied it up by knocking one in.  Although your DUX put on lots of pressure and dominated much of the second half, they were unable to get the go ahead goal so the game ended in a 2-2 tie.  Tyler Dykstra played a fantastic game between the pipes, stopping a number of penalty kicks.  The entire team played well even though it was a cooker!!  Way to make us proud!!

**The 7th grade girls volleyball team swept Holland West Thursday night in a very hot and sticky gym! Reese Geurink, Ally Yonker, Lindsey Houle, Kayla Bosch, Marissa Ybarra and Kenzie Spitters were consistent in their serving!

**The 8th grade boys soccer team did everything but put the ball in the back of the net in the first half of their game against Hamilton Thursday night. Despite dominating play and generating numerous scoring chances, Hamilton’s keeper came up big time after time and the Dux found themselves in a 0-2 hole heading into the second half. The Dux offense kept generating chances early in the second half, but a quick goal by Hamilton against the run of play in the 3rd quarter put the Hawkeyes up 3-0. Hamilton would add 2 more goals late in the game before Isaac Hondorp finally got the Dux on the board with a left footed blast from the left side. The Dux lost the game 1-5. The boys get a week off before they return to action next week Thursday against Muskegon.

**The boys and girls of the Creekside Cross Country team ran a hot and sultry meet on Wednesday in Grand Haven.  With temperatures soaring into the 80’s the perspiration was flowing but the determination was unyielding.  Hats off to Bella Hoffer, Isabella Cifuentes, and Greta Hondorp who placed in the top 10 for 6th grade girls.  The boys also persevered through adversity.  Nate Golding lost a shoe at the start yet stayed with the pack for a quarter mile before lacing back up and regaining lots of lost ground.  Micah Henry was first for the boys with a final push that allowed him to pass many competitors and end up in top 10 for 6th grade boys. Great Job.

**Thursday 9/22/17 – Your 8th Grade Volleyball Team had three spectacular wins last night at Holland West Middle School. It was a tough battle every for every point, but these ladies played strong and worked together to make it happen. Congratulations Volleyball Team!!  Coach Bob

Sports News:

**The 7th grade volleyball team beat Mona Shores Tuesday night with an impressive team effort. Ally Yonker, Lindsey Houle and Marissa Ybarra led the team with stellar serving. Mackenzie Spitters had a couple assists, which led to Ally Yonker, Lindy Gulker and Kairi Beckwith getting a kill. Great job ladies!
**Your 8th Grade Volleyball Team won two hard fought sets on our home court Tuesday afternoon, sending Mona Shores Middle School back to Muskegon with a loss. Serving and passing made the difference in the final points of each game, with great serving runs by Abby Winn and Alayna Ruch, and solid passing and hitting from Taylor Zwagerman.  Lauren Broersma led an amazing comeback in set two, shutting down the visiting team with 13 straight points on her serve and bringing the crowd to their feet!! Go Dux!!!
**The girl’s tennis team Tuesday night had several come from behind wins in this overall match vs West Ottawa but we lost the overall war by a score of 2 1/2 to 3.  There were some true battles and this match was so fun to watch.  The girls keep getting better every game.  Winning matches for Zeeland were:

Cityside:  Ella Hathaway
Creekside: Molly Cook, Annie Panozzo, Carly Sleeman, Kara Bartels, Claira Kraft

The girls are in action again this Thursday at Holland as they take on the Dutch from H-town.
**Tuesday your DUX 7th grade soccer team was back in action against the Jenison Wildcats.  Your Dux started out with two quick goals from Eli Goosen and Josh Overzet in the first five minutes of the game.  A little later Jenison scored two to tie it back up.  Josh Overzet found the back of the net before the end of the half to put your DUX ahead.  The second half, both teams were held scoreless to finish the game with a 3-2 DUX victory!  Brandon Schader played great between the pipes, even stopping a rebound off a PK to help score the win!  Great job DUX!
**After giving up an early goal off of a penalty kick, the 8th grade boys soccer team recovered nicely and played great team soccer for much of the game last night against Jenison Tuesday night. Brendan Gabrion’s header off of a Connor Dobrinksi cross knotted the score at 1-1 heading into halftime. In the 2nd half, the Dux dominated play and possession, and Isaac Hondorp’s lofted ball from the left side sailed over the keeper’s outstretched hands into the far side of the net giving the Dux a 2-1 edge. The final ten minutes were played at a hectic pace, with Jenison knotting the score at 2-2 after a defensive breakdown for the Dux. The Dux regained the lead with less than 6 minutes remaining as Dobrinski fired a low driven ball through traffic that slid by a surprised keeper. However, Jenison would respond less than a minute later off of a throw-in and unlucky bounce for the Dux. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. The boys continue to show resiliency and played with great poise and energy. Nate VanDyken was solid in goal for the Dux. The Dux return to action Thursday when they host Hamilton.

Sports News:
**
The 8th grade boys soccer team lost to Byron Center Monday night, 0-3. After finding themselves down 0-2 at halftime, the Dux rallied after a sluggish start on a hot and muggy afternoon, controlling the tempo and pace much of the second half. However, despite generating several quality scoring opportunities and dominating possession, the Dux were unable to capitalize. Nate VanDyken had a stellar performance in goal in the first half to keep the game close, while Aden Kallemeyn made several good saves in the second half. The Dux return to action tonight as they host Jenison.

**Monday, your 7th grade DUX soccer team took on Byron Center.  In the first half Diego Mendoza and Austin Mansaray found the back of the net, but Byron Center countered to keep the match tied.  In the second half, Byron Center led with two quick goals.  Your DUX fought back.  Diego Mendoza score on a penalty kick off a hand ball in the box.  Later Joey DeWeerd score a volley off a shot veering off target.  Your DUX continued to challenge, but could not find the back of the net again, which resulted in a 4-4 tie.  Doing a great job between the pipes was Tyler Dykstra.  Way to go DUX!

Tuesday night your 7th grade boys soccer team took on the Chix of Cityside.  After the first half, both teams were held scoreless and were evenly matched.  In the beginning of the second half, Cityside was able to find the net several quick times to take the lead.  After settling down, Andrew Edwards fed Diego Mendoza to score!  Unfortunately it was not quite enough to earn the win.  The final score was 3-1 Cityside.  Tyler Dykstra did a great job between the pipes and Carter Hughes, Austin Palomo, Isaiah Cifuentes, Brandon Schader, and Jacob Rios played some fantastic defense!
